The session began with a warm and engaging greeting to everyone participating in the social club. Then, it asked two warm-up questions: «Have you ever heard the word ‘Thanksgiving’ before?» and «What do you think the holiday is about—food, family, or something else?» Students attempted to answer in order to gain an initial
understanding of the topic and familiarize themselves with the concept of Thanksgiving.
After the introduction, a presentation was given outlining the historical background of Thanksgiving, which explained that it is celebrated in the United States and Canada, and its significance as a time dedicated to gratitude and reflection. The structure of the presentation was also outlined so participants knew what to expect.
Next, the core traditions associated with Thanksgiving were discussed, highlighting family gatherings, shared meals, and cultural practices such as watching football or taking part in charitable activities.
A range of traditional dishes was also presented, reinforcing iconic foods like roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, cornbread, and pumpkin pie. This section aimed to give students a well-rounded understanding of the cultural elements that define the holiday.
Following the cultural overview, several interactive components were incorporated, designed to promote active participation and reinforce key vocabulary. These activities included the «What Am I?» riddle game, a Thanksgiving-themed trivia, and the movement-based «This or That» activity. Each task was selected to enhance learner engagement, encourage critical thinking, and provide opportunities for meaningful language practice in a dynamic classroom environment.
To conclude the presentation, the central theme of Thanksgiving was emphasized: expressing gratitude and acknowledging the positive aspects of our lives. Students were encouraged to reflect on what they are thankful for and to consider how gratitude can strengthen personal relationships and community spirit. The goal was to deliver an informative, culturally enriching, and interactive learning experience.
