SOCIAL CLUB REPORT: CRIOLOWEEN

Aprendiendo y disfrutando en inglés con el Social Club CriolloWeen

The “Criolloween” Social Club was divided into three parts. The main purpose was to encourage students to practice their English through cultural topics, reading activities, and conversational games.

First Part: Halloween

The activity began with a brief introduction to Halloween and the Day of Peruvian Creole Music. Students learned that both celebrations take place on October 31 in Peru.

After that, we focused on Halloween by reading some information about its history, origins, and most common traditions. Then, we played guessing games related to the vocabulary presented during the reading. Images were shown to the students, and they had to identify and name the objects or characters in English.

This activity allowed students to review and practice new vocabulary in an interactive and entertaining way. With this, the first part of the session came to an end.

Second Part: Day of Peruvian Creole Music

The second part started with an introduction to Peruvian Creole music. Students listened to a short fragment of a song by Chabuca Granda to become familiar with this musical tradition.

Then, we read some information about the history of the Day of Peruvian Creole Music, why it is celebrated on October 31, and some of the most famous artists who represent this musical genre.

After the reading, we carried out a conversational activity in which students imagined they were introducing Peruvian Creole music to foreign people. They had to talk about its history, mention some of its most representative songs, and explain why they would recommend listening to this type of music.

Finally, we organized an activity called “The Ultimate Creole Playlist.” Students had to choose three Peruvian Creole songs to create their own playlist and explain why they selected them. Through this activity, they shared their musical preferences, expressed their opinions, and discussed the importance of Creole music as part of Peruvian culture and identity.

Third Part: Costume Contest and Closing

During the last part of the Social Club, a small costume contest organized by the institution took place. Students had the opportunity to show their costumes and participate in this entertaining activity.

After the contest, the “Criolloween” Social Club of English New Deal came to an end.

Conclusion

The “Criolloween” Social Club was an opportunity to combine cultural learning with English language practice. Throughout the activities, students practiced their speaking skills, learned new vocabulary, expressed their ideas, and discovered more about Halloween traditions and the importance of Peruvian Creole music. Overall, the event encouraged participation, interaction, and cultural appreciation in an enjoyable learning environment.
