Many people visit cemeteries and memorials on Memorial Day to honor and mourn those who died while serving in the U.S military.
In these Social club, we watched some soulful videos about military personnal who have died in the performance of their military duties.
Participants in the meeting expressed their point of view one by one. We talked about the feelings and the mourning that the person who loses a loved one goes through. Each participant was guided on how to structure a sentence, how to deliver and pronounce it, to discuss the topic. We were able to compare the obvious difference in how military service is seen and respected in the U.S. and Latin American countries. these cultural aspects are important for understanding Anglo-Saxon society.
Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial beginning of summer in the United States while Labor Day, the first Monday of September, marks the unofficial start of autumn and the end of the summer.
The social club is the perfect excuse to celebrate the festivities of English culture regardless of the distance that separates us from these lands.
We were honored to have the presence of several people who are not students of the institute, all are invited. It is important to remember that the social club is held every month. We hope you can participate in the next one!
