Halloween is a celebration on the night of October 31st. It is most practiced in the United States and Canada. Children wear costumes and go to people’s homes saying, «Trick or treat!» to ask for candy (sweets in the UK) and people give it to them. The suggestion is: «Give me a treat or I will play a trick on you.» People mainly dress up as ghosts, witches, or other scary things for Halloween. Many countries around the world have adopted this celebration as well and it has become a huge event worldwide. The spooky season is now spread all over the planet!
We had a very spooky online celebration for Halloween where all our guests had the chance to experience a great evening full of joy and fun. All our students were asked to virtually attend the party wearing a costume, the celebration started out with a little introduction of the attendees, which, by the way was a wonderful way to break the ice and get the activities started.
Afterwards we had an activity in which each one of the students had to answer a question related to Halloween, it was sort of an evening talk show, and then explain a Halloween idiom that came after the questions with the best of their imagination. The questions were scenarios of real spooky things; they were quite hard to answer.
Our main event for the night was the costume contest that took place by the end of the night among all our guests, where each one of them had to show off their costume and explain what it was about and the reason why they wore it that night.
It was a great virtual celebration and everyone had a wonderful time from the comfort of their homes.
The main purpose of this Halloween celebration night was to make our students feel amused and safe in a cozy environment where they could be able to celebrate the holiday and of course it was a great excuse to practice everyone’s English as well.
By the end of the night we had some wonderful jury members of our academy deliberate who the winner was. It was very fun and particular Halloween celebration.
