A Social Club session was held with the topic “New Year’s Resolutions.” The session was developed in several stages, combining reading, vocabulary, discussion, and speaking activities.
In the first stage, the session began with a short reading about the history of New Year. After the reading, students answered some comprehension questions. Then, a word search activity was carried out, where students had to find words related to New Year, helping them reinforce vocabulary.
In the second stage, we talked about New Year’s traditions and superstitions around the world. Students answered questions about whether they believe in any New Year’s superstitions or traditions. After that, they watched a video about New Year’s superstitions and traditions in different countries, which encouraged participation and discussion.
In the third stage, the focus was on New Year’s Resolutions. Students read a short text explaining what New Year’s resolutions are and which ones are the most common. Then, they completed an activity where they classified different resolutions as personal, professional, or both. An example of a New Year’s resolution was presented as a model.
Finally, students were asked to take a blank sheet of paper to write their own New Year’s resolutions. They were given five minutes to write their ideas. After that, each student shared their goals and resolutions with the group.
To conclude, a short reflection was given about the importance of setting goals for the new year, and the Social Club session came to an end.
