The Social Club session Celebrating Christmas was designed to encourage participation, cultural exchange, and meaningful reflection among students. The activity began with a warm-up question: “What is Christmas for you?” This simple but powerful prompt helped students express their personal views and emotions, creating an open and welcoming atmosphere from the start. Their responses allowed us to naturally connect individual experiences with the central topic of the session.
After the introduction, we worked with key Christmas vocabulary. Students shared how they experience and live the Christmas spirit in their daily lives. While a few participants connected briefly and then left, the majority remained engaged and willing to contribute. A follow-up question, “What do you like about Christmas?”, encouraged deeper participation. Many students spoke about their family traditions, celebrations, and values associated with this season. Linking these questions with the vocabulary activity proved effective, as it helped students clearly understand the purpose of the task and reinforced learning in a practical way.
Next, we explored Christmas traditions in different regions. To support this, students watched a short video about how Christmas is celebrated across several European countries. This visual activity provided clearer context and reinforced the cultural importance of Christmas beyond local traditions. Following the video, we opened a question-and-answer exchange, especially enriching because one of the students came from another country. This moment stood out as a strong example of cultural sharing, where learners compared customs, traditions, and perspectives respectfully and with curiosity.
For the practical component, students participated in a game focused on Christmas vocabulary and well-known characters. This activity increased energy, reinforced language learning, and encouraged teamwork in a relaxed environment.
The session concluded with a brief reflection on the true meaning of the Christmas spirit. Students were invited to think about values such as unity, gratitude, and kindness. Overall, the Social Club session successfully combined language practice, cultural awareness, and personal reflection in a dynamic and meaningful way.
