Happy Easter | New Deal Social Club

Since its origins, Easter has been a time of celebration and feasting and many traditional Easter games and customs have been developed, such as egg rolling, and egg decorating, however these traditions may change according to the region or country where they are celebrated. Easter is the most widely celebrated tradition around the world, for it is the most important Christian holiday of our time.

For Christians, Easter is a deeply religious holiday, celebrating the day Jesus arose from the dead after the Crucifixion. It has also become a highly commercial event, full of chocolate rabbits, decorated Easter baskets, and colorful eggs. And, of course, there’s the Easter Bunny, dropping off baskets of treats in the middle of the night to delight children everywhere on Easter morning.

At New Deal the Easter Bunny not only dropped off baskets of treats and chocolate eggs, but also a bunch of interesting Easter celebrations that are carried out in different countries around the world such as:

  • Sprinkling in Hungary; in which boys playfully sprinkle perfume, cologne or water over a young woman’s head, and ask for a kiss
  • Easter witches in Sweden; where children dressing up as Easter witches wearing long skirts, colorful headscarves and painted red cheeks go from home to home in their neighborhoods trading paintings and drawings in the hope of receiving sweets.
  • Scoppio Del Carro -Explosion of the Cart in Florence, Italy; where a huge, decorated wagon is dragged through the streets by white oxen until it reaches the cathedral.
  • Easter egg Roll in Washington DC, USA; here the President hosts the annual Easter Egg Roll on the White House lawn on Easter Monday.
  • In Germany Easter eggs are displayed on trees and prominently in streets, with some of the trees having thousands of multi-color eggs hanging on them.
  • Bulgaria, there people don’t hide their eggs — they have egg fights – and whoever comes out of the game with an unbroken egg is the winner and assumed to be the most successful member of the family in the coming year.

So, we had the opportunity to share and discuss these interesting traditions and celebrations with our students from the different levels as they gave us their own opinions regarding each custom, but that was not all! After learning about all those new things, they went Egg Hunting around the different areas of the academy and they decorated Easter Eggs in groups ,in their own style; to finish they presented their eggs and told a story about them to the rest of their classmates.
